My daily doze of love for make-up + everything else under the sun ♥
Disclaimer: Sigma Beauty Affiliate links are available within the site.

I used to have thick healthy hair when I was younger but as some people age, hair loss is inevitable. Unfortunately, my genes isn't that great to keep my crown full of hair as I get older. It got worse when I had kids since hormones contributed to further hair loss. I would say my hair loss is one of the worst things that I have to deal with each day.

I have tried a lot of things to alleviate it - took supplements like biotin, had monthly treatments, stopped the regular hair color treatments, had my hair cut regularly and even switched to organic and mild shampoos to no avail.

As I continue on to my wellness journey, I found a really good recipe I figured I should try and hopefully help reduce the hair fall. I wasn't that hopeful when I first tried but I figured I got nothing to lose (except hair which I already am haha) so I did it anyway.  I noticed as soon as I used the hair follicle spray, my hair was shinier and smoother. Two weeks into using it, I noticed that my hair fall was less. I normally leave hair traces in every corner of the house and get daily complaints from my hubby about it. Three weeks into using it, I haven't heard anything from my hubby about how irritating my hair is. I actually didn't notice how much it changed anything until our housekeeper mentioned it. She asked me if I used something to stop my hair loss since she cleaned the entire house and got minimal traces of my hair. Right now I am just waiting for regrowths to get longer and hopefully in few months I would get the Kardashian hair har har! :D OK don't give me that these bitches got fake hair anyway, the way their hair looks just awes me no matter if it is made full of weave.. I want the volume and length most women enjoy. Haha I am not even sure why I have to explain myself, but you sure know what I meant. ^_^

I used to have thick hair when I was younger but aging made me lose so much and the hair-fall got worse after having kids. My hubby keeps complaining about my hair basically in every corner of the house. I made this hair follicle spray and been using day and night. Our housekeeper this week asked if I stopped shedding hair because she normally would sweep heaps when she clean our house but didn't find any this week. I am like 🤗👍🏻👍🏻🎉 #mermaidhair #essentialoillove #oilyouneedislove

So I know you are reading this because you are also dying to try everything to get those luscious locks. High five! We are on the same boat :) I am not gonna make you wait any longer and here it goes:

Note that the recipe is based on the brand that I used which may differ since effectivity of these depend on the quality of product from the actual plant and production. All the products I used are organic.

What you need:
1oz glass amber spray bottle (or any dark glass bottle) - please do not use plastics unless you don't care about toxins getting in your system
5 drops each of the following essential oils in order of importance(use only pure high grade therapeutic oils) - the essential oils are used to help cleanse, nourish, strengthen hair follicles so make sure you get non-synthetic ones.
 - lavender
 - peppermint
 - cedarwood
 - rosemary
 - thyme
 - ylang ylang or geranium (this I alternate each week)
distilled water or hydrosol (lavender hydrosol would be great)

What to do:
1. First is to create a synergy of essential oils in a 1oz glass bottle. Swirl to mix the oils. It would be best to wait 24 hours for all the oils to mix before doing the next step.
2. Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water or hydrosol.
3. Shake. Note that this will oxidize the oils so make sure you use this within a week. If you think 1oz is too much or too less for you in a week then adjust the volume that you need.
4. Put in the refrigerator and use cold.
5. Part hair and spray in different sections of your crown. Let it air dry.
6. Use morning and night.

I've yet to see if how long it will take for my hair to get thicker or if I would even get my old hair back but at least for now I have minimized the hair fall. Also don't expect that you would eliminate hair fall since it is normal to shed 100 strands a day so don't feel bad if you still see few traces of your hair. The good thing is you are not shedding hair like you are undergoing chemotherapy (you know what I mean if have this intensive problem as I do).

If you don't have all the essential oils that I used, you can mix lavender, peppermint, frankincense and copaiba is an alternative but I haven't tested it so let me know if you got the same results. Below is also a list of essential oils that could be beneficial to hair and support hair health.

  • Ylang Ylang
  • Lavender
  • Cedarwood
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Clary Sage (for women)
  • Northern Lights Black Spruce (for men)

On top of that regimen, I have also reduced shampooing from everyday to every other day and using mild organic shampoo. Also if you notice your scalp to be flaky, you can add a bit of tea tree essential oil in the mix or massage your scalp with 1-2 drops of pure organic argan oil. I noticed there are times when my hair is flaky but not as bad as it used to when I get it.

Also, I might also give credit to me having better sleep quality after diffusing essential oils at night. I have insomnia since high school so getting better quality sleep may have also helped my body balance my hormones which could impact hair and skin condition.

Until next time!

Love lots,
Miyo

My husband often think that I am lunatic about trying just about everything to keep my skin taut and wrinkle free. When you are someone who is in your late 30s, every single regimen for your skin matters so much and have an effect on how you would look in the next 10-20 years. So lately I am crazy about this beauty tool which most people (and celebrities) who have used it claimed to have experienced a significant improvement of their skin. I am just so mad at myself that it took me this long to actually try it because I am obsessed about it!

I am talking about no other than the Nurse Jamie UpLift™ Massaging Beauty Roller. This is a facial firming beauty tool that claims to "uplift, revive and enhance your skin". I got this a month ago for $69 and with shipping + tax, it costed me about $81 for this tool.

When you age, you just can't resist this 😂 #nursejamie #instantuplift #beautyroller
A post shared by Cherry Ang 謝益恁 (@purpledaisycx) on Jul 5, 2017 at 10:09am PDT

So what is special about this tool? This roller has a unique hexagon shape with 24 massaging stones made of tourmaline to temporarily energize, enhance, revive and uplift your skin. By using this tool, you will be able to replicate the techniques Nurse Jamie uses in their signature facials which you can only get at their exclusive spas.

So how does this actually work? The tourmaline stones embedded in the roller generates an electric charge to emit negative ions and far infrared rays. The negative ions and far infrared rays can gently soothe, stimulate and also help detoxify the body and mind. The stones create a resonance similar to water that is absorbed by body to help relieve stress and stimulate circulation. Increasing blood flow to your skin through good circulation encourages increase in the production of collagen in your skin. Increased collagen levels can help skin to look firmer and smoother. Also, it helps your skin cells to regenerate and repair normally. As we age, collagen decreases which causes skin to lose elasticity.

My Personal Experience

PROs: What I love most about the tool is that I don't need to worry about charging or needing electricity to make it work. I can take it anywhere, whenever I need it. I also liked the relaxed feeling when the stones touch my skin. The cold stones are very calming and soothing. It is very relaxing to feel the roller glide through your skin as if you are getting a professional facial treatment. After I massaged my face, I felt that my skin was rejuvenated and that the v-shape on my face is more prominent. When you age, that contour around the jaw is lost since skin around it tend to loosen a bit. I also like that it helped reduced puffiness around my eyes. I can just bring it anywhere and address any issue with my skin whenever I want to.

CONs: The tool is expensive and just yields temporary results. If you buy this tool, you need to use it regularly or else you are just putting your money in the drain. Since this can only temporarily lift the skin, you need to constantly use it. However, since it does not require electricity, you can use it for as long as you need without having to worry about its electrical components degrading over time.

Overall, despite the price, I think investing on this tool is worth it specially if you really look into preserving the youthfulness of your skin. This tool however, cannot replace your entire skin regimen. This can only boost whatever you are already doing and help maximize absorption of nutrients by increasing the blood circulation in your face.

Until next time!
Love lots,
Miyo

As most of you know, I've always been passionate about preventing skin aging. So anything that would allow me to freeze my skin from sagging I would do it. :)

Recently, I have been introduced to essential oils by my friend, in the hopes of helping me get my kids to sleep early and get better sleep quality. I have never heard of essential oils before even when they have been around long time ago. There had been thousands of references to these oils in the Bible, so you get the idea how long they have been around.

Knowing that I would be using these mostly for my kids, I got myself a kit and educated myself as much as I could to ensure that I am using these safely with the little ones. While doing my research, one information got me so excited. There are oils that can help support hair and skin! You can imagine how big my smile is finding all about it haha :) So here I am again back on my blog to share with you this amazing discovery!

Not all essential oils available in market, however,  have the same health benefits. When purchasing essential oils, you need to avoid anything that says "fragrance" or "perfume" grade oil if you are mainly using it for health support, since these would most likely have synthetics that may not provide you the same benefits of a 100% pure high-grade therapeutic essential oil. Also not all essential oils are made equally, most essential oils in the market actually does not really provide any health benefits and mostly made of synthetics, so it is important to choose your oils wisely. When buying essential oils, make sure that it is certified pure therapeutic grade. It is also important to know how the brand controls the process of creating these oils from planting the seed, harvesting the plant at its peak, distillation, testing and packaging. Any contamination happening within these processes can degrade the effectivity of the essential oils that you are using.

let's have a beauty mixing session, bring your oils! :) #essentialoils #essentialoillove

So how does these essential oils (which I often refer to as EOs) come in to picture with beauty? Let's all agree that beauty is a billion dollar industry but also one of the main sources of toxins in our body. Since most of the products we use are filled with chemicals and synthetics that could potentially harm our body due to prolonged exposure to these ingredients, why would you sacrifice health for vanity? The good news is with essential oils, you don't need to make that sacrifice at all. You can create your own recipes for skin, hair and body which could even be more effective and cost efficient than any of the available products in the commercial market.

I'll help guide you through these wonderful EOs as I go through my journey. As a start, below are the two oils that I have tried and tested on myself which I find amazing! Also as a bonus, I am giving you a simple face serum recipe that you can try for yourself.

My favorite of all, referred to as the king of essential oils, is the one and only Frankincense. Frankincense is known to be associated with being one of the gifts given to baby Jesus by the three wise men. This oil has been around for centuries. It is known to help support skin cell protection that can help naturally slow down signs of aging. It can help reduce blemishes due to its skin smoothing properties. Based on my daily use, it helped reduce pimple marks whenever I get occasional breakouts. Frankincense is known to help decrease appearance of scars.

Who wins my heart the most? Frank! This essential oil has an earthy, uplifting aroma that’s perfect when engaging in prayer or meditation to enhance the experience. Don't forget the additional benefits that include maintaining radiant skin. #essentialoillove #essentialoils #wellness

The other oil that I mostly use for beauty is the Lavender. This is the most used oil and most known oil available. This oil is known mostly to calm emotions, but did you know that this has secret beauty benefits as well? Lavender can support healing of dry skin which makes it an effective moisturizer. Due to its calming properties, it can also help with cuts and burns.

Here is a simple recipe that I made which replaced all skin cremes and serums that I have been using. Mixing these two powerful oils have given me outstanding results in just 2 weeks. I have really dry skin specially during winter that no amount of moisturizer can help improve its condition. Even during summer, I find my skin flaky and dry. I use this day and night, just 1-2 drops each application. I noticed my skin feels soft and dewy that I can't stop touching it.  Even when constantly touching your skin is a mortal sin in beauty, I just can't resist it! Imagine the ecstasy of applying your foundation on a smooth supple skin. One #skingoal you don't want to miss! The recipe should last you around 30 days.

Note however that the recipe I made is based on the effectivity of the brand of oil that I am using. Since these oils are organic, some brands may require more or less so I would suggest that you start with small amount and gradually adjust based on how your skin reacts to it.

What you need:
10ml dark dropper glass bottle
10 drops of Lavender EO
10 drops of Frankincense EO
100% pure organic Argan Oil as carrier oil - check the ingredients, it should only have argan oil and no other ingredients such as perfume or synthetics. Other carrier oils such as virgin coconut oil can also be used.

Steps:
1. Create a synergy of EOs - mix lavender and frankincese in the glass bottle and swirl to create a synergy. It is best to let it sit for 24 hours before doing the next step.
2. Fill the rest of the bottle with Argan Oil.
3. Swirl the bottle (do not shake as it might cause oxidation) until the EO synergy blends with the carrier oil
4. Let it sit for 24 hours.
5. Use morning and night.

Be sure to do a skin patch test prior to using it to larger area of the skin to check for possible allergic reactions.

I have few more beauty oils that I just got and can't wait to try, test and share with you. I hope you enjoy reading this and I'll see you again in my next beauty discovery!

Love lots,
Miyo

Makeup should enhance beauty and create a perfect finish for photography. To be able to achieve a dewy natural look and allow makeup to blend well with your skin, your skin must be supple, smooth and silky. Here are some steps that you need to do to prepare your skin for makeup.

At least a day prior to applying makeup
- If you can afford it, get a full facial to rejuvenate and relax skin. A full facial helps lift dirt out of your skin and clears out pores to allow your skin to glow and feel soft. You need at least a day to help redness and swelling subside due to pricking and any effect from the products applied to your skin.

At least 8 hours prior to applying makeup
- If you were not able to get a full facial, exfoliate your skin with an apricot scrub. Gently massage your face in circular motion using your ring finger. Do not rub too much since this will irritate your skin. I usually use Clarisonic with the scrub to lift dirt and dead skin.
NOTE: Do not exfoliate if you have breakouts or acne since this will irritate your skin more. Instead, use an anti-inflammatory topical ointment to reduce swelling and redness.
- Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry with cotton pads. Do not rub.
- Apply an eye cream and moisturizer

Prior to makeup application
- Clean face with facial wipes or wash face with warm water and facial wash. Rinse with cold water.
- Apply moisturizer and let it sit for 10-15 minutes
- Apply primer. I prefer using silicone primer since it fills out fine lines and evens out the texture of your skin

To know when your skin is ready for makeup, it should feel soft and smooth. Hope this will help you prepare for your big day! ♥

I never had skin issues when I was younger which lead me to taking it for granted and not really paying attention on skin maintenance. As a result, I had really dry skin, large visible pores around my nose and uneven skin color. When I got older, I started getting so conscious about how I look and started to feel scared of wrinkles and lines. I did so many research through reading and consultation with dermatologists in order to prevent my skin from further damage. I still don't have a porcelain perfect skin (working on it XD) but I feel my skin's a lot healthier looking and doesn't reveal much my age LOL! :D

Anyway here are the 10 basic things that you need to know and do to keep your skin healthy.

1. Keep your skin hydrated. Beautiful skin starts from the inside. Drink enough water to keep your skin from becoming dry. Water is very essential not only for cleansing our body but also important in keeping your skin looking tight and moisturized.
2. Extend your daily skin care regimen down to your chest. We all know the basics of skin care - cleanse, tone and moisturize. However, most people neglect the neck down. Forgetting to include your neck and chest to your daily skin care regimen is like putting on fancy eye shadow look without grooming your brows. It defeats the purpose. The skin on the neck is thinner than the face so it requires more TLC. You don't want your neck reveal your true age do you?
3. Exfoliate. As we get older, the skin's capacity to shed dead skin cells become less reliable. Dead skin prevents skin to breathe and makes skin look very dry. Always take time to exfoliate your face and body at least 2 times a month.
4. Put on SPF. Not wearing sunscreen is a sin. It DOES NOT mean when there is no sun, there are no ultraviolet rays damaging your skin. The minimum sun protection factor (SPF) for your skin is 30. Apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before exposure. Re-apply every 2 hours if you are directly under the sun or outdoors for a longer period of time.
5. Remove traces of makeup, dirt and sweat before you sleep. Skin regenerates during sleep and lack of proper cleansing clogs pores and impedes surfacing of new cells causing skin to breakout.
6. Refrain popping acne. Popping acne can give you a temporary solution to make the pimple less visible but it will leave permanent scars on your skin.
7. STOP making unnecessary facial expressions. These are one of the reasons for the lines that appear on your face. Always keep your face relaxed and prevent yourself from making faces, lifting your brows, and squinting your eyes. On the side note, if you can skip drinking with the straw, do it. This causes lines to appear on top of your lips and it gets more visible as you get older.
8. Sleep on your back. When you sleep on your side, you tend to put pressure on one side of your face causing it to sag and develop wrinkles. When you are lying on your back, gravity pulls back your skin giving your face a natural lift :)
9. Keep your hands off your eyes. Rubbing your eyes tugs delicate areas around your eyes. This part has very thin layer of skin and also very sensitive so it is a lot faster to develop lines. Religiously apply eye cream to make up for all the years of rubbing you did.
10. Skip the makeup when you do your workout. I know some people cannot live with going all bare with their skin outside their homes. No matter how some makeup products claim that they are non comedogenic (does not clog pores) doesn't mean they are OK to use when working out. You sweat a lot when you work out so using makeup can cause blackheads and breakouts.

Getting a young and healthy looking skin doesn't need to be very expensive. Proper maintenance is the only key and taking time to care for your skin will save you money from expensive treatments. Prevention is the key so start early and do not wait until you start seeing signs of aging before you start doing something about it. :)

have you been applying chapstick or any other commercial lip conditioner to your lips almost every few minutes and yet your lips dry out with it? chappy and dry lips have always been my problem until i discovered a very effective way to moisturize.

after doing this for almost two months, i have reduced my use of lip balm throughout the day.

daily regimen: apply petroleum jelly after brushing your teeth in the morning and at night

weekly exfoliation: apply generous amount of extra virgin olive oil to your lips and let it set for 10 minutes. this preps ur lips and makes it easier to remove the dry skin. mix a teaspoon of granulated sugar and olive oil until you create a paste. use a toothbrush to brush the paste over your lips until the dry skin is removed. wipe lips to remove paste then apply small amount of olive oil to keep it conditioned.

*virgin coconut oil is also a good replacement if you are having problems finding olive oil.

let me know and post your comments if this also works for you :)

it has always been a debate whether to pluck your eyebrows or not. most people prefer plucking their brows since it looks better, gives them more control and gives a really clean trim.

however, plucking brows can also cause premature skin aging. when you pluck your brows, the skin is stretched for every hair you remove. the continuous and numerous times you stretch the skin above your eyelids during plucking can cause it to eventually becoming loose. this will cause your eyelids to sag as you get older. sagging eyelids is not that easy to fix, specially that the skin around the eyes are very thin and sensitive. finding a product to tighten the skin around the eyes is not as easy as finding one for your face.

so what are the other options you can do aside from shaving? you can do threading, waxing or laser hair removal. threading and waxing can be a bit expensive compared to shaving (which is totally free) but these methods give the same clean trim that plucking provides. the skin could still be stretched as you pull the hair off, but not as much as you do when you pluck them.

if you do not wish to go to a salon to have a professional do it for you, there are alot of home waxing products you can use. i use either sally hansen or epilin. sally hansen's price is twice as much as epilin. i prefer sally hansen to remove facial hair since it is easy to use (you just heat it in the microwave) and it gives me more control in applying the product because of its consistency. the only thing i don't like about sally hansen is that it can be a little bit messy and it does not harden. so there are chances that you would need to re-apply and remove the remaining hair 2-3 times. the kit includes skin conditioner which is also a great bonus :)

on the other hand, if you prefer to do costless trimming without shaving, you can thread your own eyebrows. threading the eyebrows is easy to learn and it's free. the only tradeoff is, it can be very painful.

laser hair removal is the best option but it can be very expensive. i recommend this though. it would cost around 40-50 dollars in phils but it could give you about 1-2 months of no trimming plus it doesn't stretch your skin at all.

whether you like to shave, thread, wax or use laser to trim your brows, it's all up to you as long as you prevent yourself from plucking again. :)
