beauty tip: maintaining moisturized lips

by - 12:10 AM

have you been applying chapstick or any other commercial lip conditioner to your lips almost every few minutes and yet your lips dry out with it? chappy and dry lips have always been my problem until i discovered a very effective way to moisturize.

after doing this for almost two months, i have reduced my use of lip balm throughout the day.

daily regimen: apply petroleum jelly after brushing your teeth in the morning and at night

weekly exfoliation: apply generous amount of extra virgin olive oil to your lips and let it set for 10 minutes. this preps ur lips and makes it easier to remove the dry skin. mix a teaspoon of granulated sugar and olive oil until you create a paste. use a toothbrush to brush the paste over your lips until the dry skin is removed. wipe lips to remove paste then apply small amount of olive oil to keep it conditioned.

*virgin coconut oil is also a good replacement if you are having problems finding olive oil.

let me know and post your comments if this also works for you :)

  1. I agree, after experiencing chapped lips in winter despite my constant use of chapstick, i discovered that the use of petroleum jelly works better for me. but unlike your daily regimen, i use a generous amount of it throughout the day (that's why I carry it in my purse :D), and even before I use a lipstick (yeah it does not make the lipstick "stick" but at least I know my lips are being kept moisturized). :)

I have not tried the virgin coconut oil/olive oil strategy. will tell you how it goes once I try it. thanks for the tip!

  2. i used to apply more than twice a day with petroleum jelly but i read that the more you put artificial moisturizer on your lips then the more it becomes dependent on it. i have reduced the application and later my lips look healthier and didn't require much of the product as before. :)

my lips would have dry skin once in a while, which is normal, that is why weekly exfoliation is required.

i hope the olive oil will also work for you :) thanks! ^_^
